PBHA’s Summer Urban Program, or SUP, is a network of 12 summer programs at 11 different sites across Boston and Cambridge for six weeks each summer. SUP is staffed by 130 college students and 90 local high schoolers, and each summer welcomes more than 800 young people ages six to 13. Applications are open for summer 2023 positions. Summer Urban Program (SUP) Director
The SUP directorship role truly is one of the most life-changing, supportive, personally transformative paid summer service opportunities available to college students in the area. Because SUP is student-led and operates in a team model, you will learn high-level management skills on a par with running a small non-profit or school from interpersonal relationships, to partner engagement, to child development, to program design, to fundraising and finances. Each program has a professional staff coach and students participate in a semester of training with community leaders before entering the classroom. The staff teams are highly diverse with students from Harvard and other colleges (many of whom grew up in the program) and local teens. Alumni support through coaching and mentorship throughout the summer. A stipend of $7,000 is provided for the summer. The first priority deadline is January 16th, 2023. Summer Urban Program (SUP) Senior Counselor
Senior Counselors work with a group of children ages 6-13 for seven weeks during the summer (RISE works with high school students), implementing a self designed curriculum. In the programs, Senior Counselors work alongside Junior Counselors, who are teenagers hired from the particular community in which the program is located. Senior Counselors have the opportunity to keep in close contact with parents and community members as well as join the rest of the staff on a variety of retreats and trainings throughout the summer.
